Rain/snow

I don’t think a word exists for the weather right now.  When I started walking back from class, it was cold rain.  However, as I walked, I started to notice that some of the raindrops were large and white.  These mysterious white globules increased in number until they outnumbered the raindrops, but they were not snow.  They refused to present themselves for my examination on any surface, including my generously offered coat sleeve, choosing instead to transform into loose clumps of liquid milliseconds before making contact.

This hybrid was truly the worst of both worlds.  It was cold and awful like snow, with all of the vengeful, persistent wetness of rain.  Instead of the soothing pitterpatter created by a good rainstorm, the white blobs’ obvious confusion over their state of matter culminated in a sickening ‘plop’ as they struck the committed liquid pooling on the sidewalk.

As I write this, it’s full-on snowing outside.  It’s pretty, true, but I am nevertheless filled with inexpressible hatred for this worthless season.

I hate winter.
