One paranoid American’s view of health care reform

Paranoid Much?

This is a 100% real comment left on a CBS News story by one particularly paranoid health care reform critic. I found it simultaneously hilarious and disturbing. The fact that this guy presumably lives in this country and has the right to vote really makes me worry. Here it is.

“Part of this healthcare bill is the govt will take hey take your guns and take away our women and put them into camps for genetic testing and leave us with just a sausage party forcing everyone to get a gay on.
Then they’re gonna make sure every child born from now on will be part black and amerxican. They’re gonna wipe away the whites. If Jesus were here he’d nuke the liberals. Jesus believed in freedom of corporation. He got so tired of healing poor sick people who wouldn’t get off their lazy butt and get a job.” – vrknoise March 24, 2010 1:35 PM EDT

Star Flop

Picard or Pickhard?

Picard or Pickhard?

I just stumbled upon this little nugget in Google Docs and thought I’d post it. I wouldn’t mind expanding this into a short parody of Star Trek. This snippet made me laugh a few times. Think it’s worth continuing?

“Captain on the bridge!” shouted the guard standing by the door to the elevator in the bridge. The door opened, and Captain Pickhard stepped quickly into the bridge, pausing only to trip, look around confusedly, and then get up again.
“At ease,” said the captain, dusting himself off. He was not a graceful man by any means, and on his worse days he was, to put it bluntly, a bumbling klutz. He stumbled over to his captain’s chair and sat down. Well, tried to sit down would be more accurate, seeing as his first attempt landed him back in the elevator, and the second one resulted in a five minute struggle to get his backside out of the trash can. Pickhard did eventually get situated properly in his chair, with his feet coming out the correct side and everything! The officers manning the bridge all applauded, very impressed, and then went back to their work. The Chief Science officer, Block, was meditating quietly in his seat, trying to remember how to turn on his computer console. Instead of the usual “Ohhhmmm” one associates with meditation, Block was uttering more of a “Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhnnn” nasal sound, flecked with quiet spattering sounds as drool made its way out of his mouth and onto the black screen of his console.

My Healthcare Reform Debate

Today the House of Representatives passed both the Senate health care reform bill and the reconciliation package.  I spent the evening debating (if you can really call it that) a few people on Facebook.  Mainly, it consisted of my opponents repeating a partially or entirely false Republican talking point and me trying to refute it in a way that they wouldn’t dismiss as liberal bullshit.  I think I performed pretty well, and by Godwin’s Law (the first person to compare the other to Hitler loses the argument) I won several times.  Whatever your political persuasion, I think you might enjoy reading this lively discussion.  Names not changed so as not to protect those involved.

Open Beta Ruse Review

I got RUSE yesterday when the open beta commenced and I have one word which sums it up. Amazing. Being an RTS junky I’ve played nearly all of them. My list includes all of the C&C (Command and Conquer), Age of empires 3, Warcraft, Starcraft, Company of heroes, and the Total War games. Most RTS are generally the same, you build a base and then create a huge army to obliterate your oponent; however, RUSE is nothing like any of the other RTS I have mentioned in my opinion. Yes, in RUSE you do build a base and a army to destroy your foes but there is a new feel to it.  One of my favorite options is the zoom feature which allows you to quickly zoom in and out of the battlefield. Also, you can deploy different tactics, which can be anywhere from your units moving faster or creating a fake assault. I have played it a couple of times online and experienced no lag for an RTS game and I have seen many different tactics. I believe this is a game I will most definitely be buying. Now all I wish I had was an awesome touch screen table like the one seen in the trailer.

Heights

How I hate heights, I don’t hate them in a box with a fox wearing socks or on a train or on a plane or in buildings but open space heights, where theres not jack to grab onto to keep you from falling.  My dads in a cast right now and has been for awhile now so he couldn’t get the Christmas lights and I volunteered to do it, not thinking at the time that I would have to stand on a ladder.  The second I start climbing up the ladder my legs start to shake and I’m a little worried, the second I stop climbing I lean forward and put my knees on the rungs as I use a pole to try and get the lights which in turn makes the entire ladder shake only freaking me out more, so I make the wise decision to get off the ladder and just climb onto the roof, a little better but still freaking out a bit because its a lot steeper up there than it appears from the ground.  I could go on about my day on the ladder and roof experience but I would rather just say that I hate heights and they hate me, If man was supposed to climb on the roof he would have extendo legs.
